Jazz Festival

The annual Jazz Festival at Ridgeview Manor has established itself as one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Canadian Rockies, drawing world-class musicians and jazz aficionados from across the globe. Now in its fifteenth year, the festival transforms our mountain retreat into a vibrant celebration of musical artistry, with performances set against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Louise and snow-capped peaks. From intimate piano solos in our fireside lounge to full ensemble performances on our lakeside pavilion, the festival creates magical moments where natural splendour and musical brilliance converge in perfect harmony.
This year's programme features an impressive lineup of talent spanning traditional jazz, contemporary fusion, and avant-garde exploration. Grammy-winning saxophonist David Mitchell will headline opening night with his quintet, performing selections from his acclaimed "Mountain Passages" suite, composed specifically for the festival during his artist residency last winter. The international flavour continues with Paris-based vocalist Sophie Clement bringing her unique blend of French chanson and modern jazz, whilst the Tokyo String Collective will perform their innovative interpretations of jazz standards reimagined through classical string arrangements. Local talent shines as well, with Alberta's own Cameron Quartet returning after their showstopping performance last year.
Beyond performances, the festival offers unique opportunities for guests to engage with artists through masterclasses, informal discussions, and special dining experiences. The popular "Jazz Breakfast" series returns, where attendees enjoy gourmet morning fare whilst musicians share insights into their creative process, occasionally treating diners to impromptu performances. New this year is our "Alpine Jazz Journey" – an afternoon hike guided by both a naturalist and musician, culminating in a sunset performance at a scenic lookout. For serious enthusiasts, we're offering limited spaces in intensive workshops led by festival headliners, covering everything from improvisation techniques to composition.
The festival atmosphere extends throughout Ridgeview Manor, with themed culinary offerings at all our restaurants, craft cocktails inspired by jazz legends at our bars, and late-night jam sessions where guests might find themselves witnessing spontaneous collaborations between performers. Many guests make this an annual tradition, booking their stays a year in advance to secure prime accommodations during this special week. Whether you're a lifelong jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, the festival offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience world-class music in one of Canada's most spectacular settings. As the final notes fade each evening, with moonlight dancing on the surface of Lake Louise, festival-goers often describe the experience as nothing short of magical.
