Summer Adventures

As the last snow melts from the mountainsides and alpine meadows erupt in a riot of wildflowers, Ridgeview Manor awakens to the splendour of summer in the Canadian Rockies. The crystalline waters of Lake Louise transform from their winter ice cover to a mesmerising turquoise, creating a perfect mirror for the surrounding peaks and glaciers. This magical season offers our guests the opportunity to experience the mountains at their most vibrant, with extended daylight hours illuminating hiking trails until late evening and pleasant temperatures perfect for outdoor exploration. The summer months reveal the incredible biodiversity of Banff National Park, with our naturalist guides leading expeditions to spot everything from majestic elk and elusive black bears to tiny alpine marmots and over 260 species of birds that call this wilderness home.

Our summer activities programme takes full advantage of the glorious weather, with options thoughtfully crafted to suit every interest and ability level. Adventurous souls can challenge themselves with guided mountaineering experiences on Victoria Glacier, exhilarating white-water rafting on the Kicking Horse River, or helicopter tours providing eagle's-eye views of remote alpine lakes inaccessible by foot. For those seeking gentler pursuits, our lakeside yoga platform hosts sunrise sessions with mountain vistas, whilst guided photography walks help capture the perfect images of wildflowers, wildlife, and mountain landscapes. Families particularly appreciate our Junior Naturalist programme, where children aged 5-12 explore mountain ecology through engaging activities led by our environmental education specialists, returning with fascinating stories and newfound appreciation for nature conservation.

The bounty of summer extends to our dining experiences, where garden-fresh produce and locally foraged ingredients take centre stage. Executive Chef Thomas Anderson works closely with regional farmers and our own kitchen gardens to create seasonal menus that capture the essence of summer in the Rockies. Guests savour mountain-grown berries at breakfast, salads featuring just-picked greens and edible flowers at lunch, and dinners showcasing the finest Alberta beef and Pacific seafood. The Pinnacle restaurant's Summer Harvest menu has become legendary, with each course highlighting a different microclimate of the Canadian Rockies, from alpine meadows to riverside valleys. Outdoor dining reaches its zenith during these months, with lakeside barbecues, forest picnics prepared by our chefs, and the popular weekend Mountain Market featuring food stalls, local artisans, and live music on our expansive terrace.

Perhaps most cherished are the long summer evenings, when the mountains glow with the golden light photographers call "magic hour" and the atmosphere at Ridgeview Manor becomes especially convivial. Guests gather on the Grand Terrace to watch alpenglow paint the peaks in shades of pink and gold, cocktails in hand and new friendships forming over shared stories of the day's adventures. Our Summer Concert Series brings accomplished musicians to perform under the stars each weekend, from classical quartets to folk ensembles, whilst our astronomers set up telescopes to observe the remarkably clear night skies. The summer season culminates in our annual Midsummer Celebration, a magical evening featuring floating lanterns on the lake, gourmet dining stations throughout the gardens, and dancing under the stars. As fireflies begin to twinkle in the woods and the first stars appear above the mountains, guests often remark that summer evenings at Ridgeview Manor have a timeless quality—a perfect blend of natural wonder, refined comfort, and the simple pleasure of being present in one of the world's most beautiful settings.
